20 Aesthetic Summer Hobby Ideas to Romanticize Your Life
Irina LikhachevaWe all create these massive Pinterest boards filled with "summer aesthetic" pictures. We promise ourselves we are going to wake up at 6 AM, do yoga, and read 50 books. And then... July arrives, and we are just doom-scrolling on the couch in our pajamas. Sound familiar? Because same.
This year, I decided I’m not putting that kind of pressure on myself. Instead of setting crazy goals, I want to focus on hobbies. Small, cozy, romantic little things that make everyday life feel like a beautiful indie movie.
Here are 20 aesthetic summer hobby ideas to help you romanticize your life. Let’s make some memories (and a bit of a mess) together!
1. Creating a Summer Herbarium
Keep the memory of sunny days forever by pressing flowers and leaves you find on your walks.
I tried this last year and completely forgot about it. Months later, in the middle of winter, I opened a very serious, dark thriller book I was reading, and a perfectly dried pink daisy fell out. It literally made my whole week! 🌸
2. Reading & Collecting Vintage Books
There is a completely different magic in turning real, paper pages compared to staring at a screen. Plus, vintage books look absolutely gorgeous on your nightstand.
Go to a secondhand bookstore or a thrift shop this weekend. Don't look at the bestseller lists, just walk around and pick a book based entirely on how much you love its vintage cover or aesthetic fonts.
3. Making Aesthetic Iced Lattes at Home
Why spend $8 at a cafe when you can become your own romantic barista?
Buy a nice aesthetic glass cup, some cute ice molds (like little roses or bears), and try layering your morning coffee. Play a jazz playlist while you do it. The vibe is immaculate. ☕️
4. Thrift Flipping & Antique Shopping

Spend your weekends hunting for vintage treasures, cute unique mugs, or old ornate frames to decorate your room.
Find a local flea market or a small thrift store you’ve never been to. Go with an open mind, look for old books with pretty covers, vintage mirrors, or glass vases that you can give a second life to. It’s not just shopping; it’s like a treasure hunt for your soul.
5. Water-Color Sketching Outdoors
You don’t need to be Picasso. It’s all about the meditative process of mixing colors.
Pack a mini watercolor palette and go to a local park. Even if your painted clouds end up looking like mashed potatoes, the process of sitting in the grass and painting is 10/10 therapy.
6. Reading in the Sun (Picnic Style)
Swap your bed for a picnic blanket. Reading hits differently when you feel the sun on your skin and a gentle breeze.
7. Baking Homemade Bread or Focaccia
The smell of fresh bread baking in your kitchen is the ultimate "slow living" aesthetic.
The dough is sticky. You will get flour on your nose and probably your phone screen. But when you pull that golden bread out of the oven decorated with little cherry tomatoes, you will feel like a coastal grandmother.
8. Making Beaded Jewelry

Bring back childhood nostalgia by making custom bracelets, rings, and necklaces with freshwater pearls, tiny colorful bows, and pastel beads.
I started doing this just to make a cute phone charm, and now my workspace is covered in tiny plastic organizers full of seed beads. There is something so satisfying about spending an hour mixing colors and creating something you can actually wear with your favorite summer outfits.
Order a basic bead kit online (look for pastel colors, pearls, and star beads). Put on a cozy movie and make matching "bestie bracelets" for you and your friend.
9. Intentional Bullet Journaling
The ultimate way to romanticize your life is to design it. There is a deep, quiet joy in sitting down with a warm cup of coffee, lighting a candle, and mapping out your day. It completely shifts your mindset from "Oh no, I have so much to do today" to "How can I make today beautiful and peaceful?" It gives you a sense of control and turns ordinary planning into a gorgeous daily ritual. Plus, tracking your mood and habits helps you stay grounded and mindful of your own needs.
You don't need to draw everything from scratch and stress over messy lines. You can start right now with my custom July Bundle. It includes a beautiful Monthly Calendar, a Summer Bucket List, and Habit Trackers in our signature cozy aesthetic. Whether you print it on A5 paper or use it digitally on your iPad, it’s the perfect tool to organize your dream summer.

10. Learning Calligraphy
Beautiful handwriting is a lost art. It’s deeply relaxing, forces you to slow down your movements.
Buy just one good brush pen (Tombow or Pentel are amazing). Look up a "basic brush lettering alphabet" on YouTube and practice just 10 minutes a day right in your planner or a blank notebook. Once you get the hang of thick downstrokes and thin upstrokes, it becomes incredibly therapeutic.
11. Outdoor Morning Pilates
Start your day with gentle, intentional movement before the rest of the world wakes up and gets noisy.
Set your alarm 20 minutes earlier just once this week. Roll out your mat, don't check your phone notifications, and do a slow, low-impact full body workout while your morning coffee is brewing. 🧘
12. Embroidering Tote Bags (And Everything Else)

Upgrade a plain canvas tote bag with a cute, simple design. It’s the perfect mindful hobby to do while listening to your favorite podcast.
Once you learn the basic stitch, you will want to embroider a little pink bow on literally everything you own. My tote bags, t-shirts, and socks are no longer safe. I'm currently eyeing my curtains, and honestly, they might be next.
13. Air-Dry Clay Crafting
Make your own aesthetic trinket dishes, incense holders, or tiny wavy vases.
I made a little white dish for my rings. Is it perfectly round? No. Is it slightly crooked? Yes. Do I love it with all my heart? Absolutely! It has character.
Buy a small block of white air-dry clay. Roll it out, shape a small shape, and use a knife to give it trendy wavy edges. Let it dry for 24 hours, paint it in soft pastel colors, and seal it with a glossy varnish. It looks so high-end!
14. Baking Aesthetic Treats (Tarts & Madeleines)
Baking isn't just for cozy winter evenings! Summer baking is all about fresh fruits, citrus scents, and light, airy textures.
There is a specific kind of joy in baking on a sunny Saturday morning, letting the kitchen fill with the smell of lemon zest, and eating them warm while they are still soft. It feels so luxurious and peaceful. Find a simple recipe for a French Strawberry Tart or classic Madeleines. Focus on the presentation, dust them with a little powdered sugar, put them on your prettiest ceramic plate, and serve them like you're at a boutique bakery in Paris. 🍓🍰
15. Scrapbooking Your Memories (The Ultimate Memory Keeping)

Turn your digital photos into a tangible, beautiful book. Print out your favorite moments, save movie tickets, and paste them into a blank notebook with cute washi tape.
My Phone storage is constantly screaming at me because I have 15,000 photos of my cat and sunsets. Printing them out and making a real scrapbook completely changed how I look at memories. Now, instead of scrolling past them, I get to touch them!
Order 10-15 prints of your favorite photos from this month. Grab some pastel washi tape, a couple of dried flower petals, and spend a cozy rainy afternoon pasting them into a notebook. Write down little inside jokes next to the pictures so you never forget them.
16. Curating Seasonal Playlists
Create the ultimate soundtrack to your summer. Instead of just listening to random hits, make specific musical moods for different moments of your day.
Make different playlists for "Sunset Drives", "Morning Coffee", or "Cozy Evenings".
Music is the easiest way to instantly shift your mood and romanticize even the most boring chores.
17. Stargazing and Night Walks (A True Digital Detox)
Check the weather forecast for a clear night. Put your phone in a drawer, grab a warm drink in a thermos, and sit outside on your balcony or in the yard for 20 minutes just looking up. It’s the perfect way to prep your brain for a deep, amazing sleep.
18. Crocheting Tiny Accessories

Learn to crochet something small and cute, like a bookmark, a coaster, or a little pouch for your headphones.
Don't start with a massive blanket, you will lose your mind by row five. Start small!
Buy one ball of soft pastel yarn and a matching crochet hook. Search YouTube for "How to crochet a simple heart bookmark for beginners." It’s a super short project, and you’ll feel so proud when you finish it!
19. Trying Film & Movie Reviews in Your Journal
Instead of mindlessly binge-watching a show while scrolling TikTok at the same time, start actively watching aesthetically pleasing movies (Studio Ghibli films are mandatory for this!) and write mini-reviews in your journal.
Pick a visually beautiful movie (like Howl's Moving Castle or a cozy period drama). Put your phone in another room. While watching, pay attention to the colors, the music, and how the movie makes you feel. Afterward, open your journal and write a 5-sentence review. Rate it using cute star or heart drawings!
20. Digital Detox Sundays
Make it a hobby to completely disconnect.
I tried this last Sunday. The first hour was tough. I kept reaching for my. But after I got over that, making a slow breakfast and filling out my planner without any notifications was pure bliss.
Turn your phone off every Sunday until noon. Just try it once!
Which of these hobbies are you going to try first? I think I'm going to work on my watercolor skills this weekend! Let me know in the comments, and please don't forget to grab your July Bundle to map out all your gorgeous new summer plans! ✨
